The installation OSMAN is developed for SALON/Istanbul as an official part of the first Istanbul Design Biennial organized by IKSV. The evolutionary image consists of 5 developing steps; Image 1 presenting 3 ingredients: carpet, wood and a rubber pole. In every following sculptural step the ingredients merge more, until the 5th image, that suggests to be a human like figure wearing a skirt of carpet. The construction of the work is done in a Lego like way. By ‘clicking’ the different materials into each other they become one, this way the work can be also completely taken apart.
The project in Istanbul stretched over a year in witch we worked together with different local craftsman. The carpets are all hand knotted by locals, also the woodwork is done in collaboration with a Turkish wood workshop.
Technique/medium: Natural dyed/ hand knotted woollen carpets, rubber, metal, Chestnut wood.
Dimensions: (H) 1.32 m x (W) 9.00 m x (D) 2.30 m
