WELCOME
Spatial design; developed for the Dutch Invertuals exhibition “NO STATIC”, during the design week Eindhoven 2015. The work is made in collaboration with Assa Abloy entrance systems.
We were asked by Dutch Invertuals to make a “non static” moving artwork. We decided to make a work that consisted out of elements that existed by the fact that they were moving. Inspired by escalators, elevators and sliding doors we dived into the industry resulting in a spectacular collaboration with Assa Abloy.
The basis of the installation is a steel frame with ten sliding doors. The doors, lined up in row, respond to the approach of the visitor. Stickers with a pattern in which motion is abstracted are applied on the doors. The design is based on the stickers that can be found on this type of glass doors, warning the public for their presence. This opening and closing of the doors as well as the approach and interaction of the onlooker leads to, as it where, a dance between doors and spectator.
Technique/Medium: 10 Automatic sliding doors in a row, placed in block formation within a steel frame.
Dimensions: (L) 4.24, (W) 4.10, (H) 2.46
